Venus Williams is back playing championship-level tennis on the world stage. She is clearly the sentimental favorite at the Australian Open by making it to the Women's Singles semifinals by beating her third Top 20 player in a row (before her last match, Williams was ranked 81st). However, what is also surprising is her decision to wear humongous earrings while playing professional tennis. While her play doesn't seem to be negatively affected by it, how could these large, ridiculous looking earrings help her in any way?
While her play has been notable, why should we believe that Venus is serious about pursuing professional tennis when she can't separate herself from the glitzy, runway fashion scene long enough to finish a Grand Slam tournament? Did she just forget these sand dollar-sized accouterments? This is just not behavior that is appropriate for a professional athlete. How can she play with those things waving in the wind, dangling and swinging all over her face and neck? It's ludicrous.
